A Temple of Rock in Murray Hill

Well, that’s over.

Now let’s move on to important matters of rock and roll...

Welcome back to town The Cutting Room, a guitar-laden holy temple of rock, relocated to Murray Hill and now open for ticketed events.

Magic is going to happen here. Partly because there’s a chandelier made of Fender Strats lighting the lobby. And partly because it’s entirely possible you’ll see Sting taking in a Billy Joel show from a small table with just a few hundred other people.

It looks like a bizarre Keith Richards dream brought to life. Sweeping balconies lined with beat-up old dining tables. Morrison Hotel prints. Rock paintings you can buy. Catwalks hiding broken, ancient miniature pianos. Don’t go right to the bar. Get a good wide-angle look at it first. Yeah, it’s a fretboard, complete with headstock with giant tuning pegs at the end.

Now head through the double doors near the headstock. Boom, stage. It’s not a huge room. A few scattered tables and a little bit of balcony space overhead. Small enough for everyone to hear your enthusiastic request for “The River of Dreams.”

But back to the magic. The Ramones’ Tommy Ramone and Glen Matlock of the Sex Pistols are doing an acoustic set of their respective bands’ classics next Wednesday. You can grab tickets now. That’s right, unplugged classic punk.

Sedated, if you prefer.
