Holy Land
A Garden-Filled Hotel in Chelsea

It’s finally come to this:

Today is the day we send you to a seminary.

It’s The High Line Hotel, it’s a neo-Gothic hotel that used to house a bunch of Episcopal priests-in-training, and it’s taking reservations now.

A little background: this was constructed in 1895 as the living quarters of the General Theological Seminary. The land was donated by the guy who wrote “’Twas the Night Before Christmas.” So... there’s that.

Now it’s 60 rooms of stained-glass, elaborately-carved-wood lodging splendor with courtyards to spare and a cult coffee shop in tow. So let’s do a quick checklist of how you’ll exploit it:

For putting up visitors.
You know, for their sake. There’s a suite equipped with one-of-a-kind stretched-leather furniture, marble sinks, king-size beds and scary paintings of religious figures. Plus access to a square city block of private gardens.

For your morning coffee.
The first East Coast location of Intelligentsia is here. They’re Chicago coffee royalty, and they do a cold brew that’ll wake the dead.

For your next big shindig.
The refectory’s been turned into a private event space the size of a small gymnasium—with 30-foot vaulted ceilings and a fireplace that basically takes whole trees.

For the future.
Sometime in July, the front garden will become a champagne garden. A lobby cocktail bar and restaurant will come after that.

Just as God intended.
