Another 57th Street Gem
It’s The Wayfarer, a stunner of a Midtown surf-and-turf spot at the Quin hotel, where you can wait out this picture-book blizzard right now.
The general goodness of 57th Street is fully a thing now. Between 5th and 7th avenues, you’ve now got Betony, Quality Italian, Kingside and... this place.
Which makes it a choice stretch for, say, post-MoMA dates. Especially now that there’s this bad boy around for lamb racks, cioppino (sort of a greatest-hits-of-the-ocean stew that’s big in San Francisco) and The Royale—basically, a three-level seafood platter of oysters, clams, mussels, lobster, scallops, crab, tuna and hamachi.
There’ll be two floors eventually. But for now, focus on the ground level’s serpentine leather booths and marble bar. Focus on the house cocktail—a glass of bison-grass vodka, lime, agave, baked-apple bitters, celery bitters and black cardamom—put together by a very busy fellow from Evelyn Drinkery. Also, focus on...
... your date, probably.
