Diners.

We’ll just say it—they’re magic.

They’re where breakfast can happen anytime.

Where Edward Hopper might immortalize you in oil.

Where Jerry and George might hatch a contest.

And this... well, this is the mother of them all...

Grab some booth at Empire Diner, the Chelsea institution that’s been reborn with the help of a Chopped judge, now open.

So, Empire Diner. It’s a classic. A legend. An art moderne beauty you may have spied in some of the greatest all-time New York City movies, like Manhattan and... Home Alone 2.

Well, it closed in 2010, briefly came back as the Highliner and has been given new life from Amanda Freitag. (You know, the long-missed chef who was last at the Harrison and is now all over your television, judging and cooking up various sustenance.)

It’s only open during dinner hours right now. But soon enough, it’ll be open 24/7.

Whenever you go, you’re coming for gloriously upgraded greasy spoonness. We’re talking fluffy pancakes, matzo ball marrow soup, black-and-white cheesecake and the real killer: a French onion soup with bagel-bread-pudding croutons.

Conveniently enough, it’s French-onion-soup-with-bagel-bread-pudding-crouton season.
