And now, a quick recap of everything we know about Chester A. Arthur:

He was president. He had sideburns. He... was a president with sideburns.

Oh, and this place is named after him...

Stand and salute The Chester, a new indoor-outdoor haven of civilized food and drink from Paige Hospitality Group and named for America’s 21st commander in chief, now open in the Gansevoort Meatpacking.

Not long ago, this was Toy. Yes, as in elevated-DJ-booths-and-lobster-dumplings Toy. But that was then. This is the checkered-tile-floored, pebbled-leather-couched, chandelier-filled now.

What hasn’t changed: the wraparound patio with a view of 9th Avenue. That’s where you’ll bring a round of Hellfires (made with jalapeño-infused tequila) and toast your last warm-weather drinks of 2013. Or, if you’re on a date, head inside to the cozy nook wrapped in wallpaper that looks like library shelves. That’s where you’ll... do things that people do in nooks. (You know, like sudoku.)

And food. You’ll want food. There’s skirt steaks. Chilean sea bass skewers. Buttermilk fried chicken with biscuits and gravy. Not to mention a private dining room upstairs for any hush-hush UN Security Council meetings.

Careful, we hear Ban Ki-moon hogs the gravy boat.
