Manhattan's Swankiest BYO

None
Once in a while, the gods smile on you. You're seated next to Miss Texas on a cross-country flight. Your shares in the rubber underwear company split. Or, the next hottest restaurant in town doesn't get its liquor license.

Thanks to that blessed little group of killjoys known as Community Board #3, the East Village's long-awaited European Union will open tomorrow night with a most unfortunate (for them) Achilles' heel. They are sans liquor and bone dry, earning them the title, BYOB Opportunity of the Year.

While normally you'd enjoy your store-bought beer in a neighborhood joint of a lesser sort, at EU you'll be settling into a slick industrial-chic space that's signature AvroKo, complete with perfectly aged mahagony accents and plenty of warm light.

To properly enjoy the European gastro-pub fare, first hit up the nearest bodega for some Heffeweisen to swig down the pressed duck confit with oven roasted tomato, sweet onion and mustard, or swing by Jack's Liquor or Avenue A Wines for some Veuve to complement the egg on toast with tasty duck prosciutto. Or hell, call ahead and have a case of your favorite wine delivered directly to a communal table, patiently awaiting the arrival of you and your 11 closest friends. If you fast become a regular (smart man) they'll even store your wines in their cellar.

Don't forget to toast the Community Board.
