The Smyth Dimension
Tribeca's Newest Hotel Hideaway
Getting lost is a sublime art. At least when you do it on purpose.
So it's nice to have a ready stash of pockets and nooks scattered about town where you can hide away for a
drink or three and even spend the night if you really need to drop off the grid.
The newly minted
Smyth, the
latest
Thompson hotel
to hit
Manhattan, is your new Tribeca safehouse, and it opens tomorrow.
Named for the anonymity that comes once you walk through the doors (they'll refer to you as Mr. Smyth if you
like...), Smyth's lobby feels like a modern, airy version of a British gentleman's club, minus any sign of
brandy snifters or plaid. Pinstriped suiting fabrics and faux ostrich skins line the walls, tufted
banquettes are nestled in sectioned-off areas, and the small-but-mighty bar is open for business.
It's the kind of sexy lobby that could play host to a pre-Bouley cocktail or a post-Smith & Mills
nightcap (which may also be a pre-spending-the-night-upstairs nightcap) if you're making an all-Tribeca
evening out of it.
If things do get a little... upstairs, the rooms are the clean, elegant dark wood boites that you would
expect from the Thompson folks. And they've kitted each room with a frosted glass wall that allows you to
just quite make out what's happening in the shower as you laze about on the bed.
Think of it as a sneak peek of what's to come.
