Taking In a Ball Game from Your Hotel

The green grass in the outfield, the smell of hot dogs and peanuts, the crack of the bat meeting the ball... yes, these are all things you want to get away from. So in honor of tomorrow’s All-Star Game, here are the best places to catch a ball game while still wearing your hotel’s bathrobe. This is how Abner Doubleday dreamed it would be.

PADRES

The Omni in San Diego

Where you’re staying: In the two-bedroom suites on floors 16 through 20
Why: The joint’s attached to the stadium, so your views are comparable to... well, a suite in the stadium. (Though here, they’ll deliver apple pie to your room.) Still, if the view’s not up to your exacting standards, you can drop by the stadium’s sky bridge, or take a harbor cruise to the game. You just can’t do this sort of thing at a Brewers game.

MARINERS

Silver Cloud in Seattle

Where you’re staying: One of the one-bedroom suites on floors 7 through 9
Why: At this new hotel, across the street from the park, you’ll be able to take in an M’s game from the comfort of your room. But we also have three important words for you: rooftop poolside view.

BLUE JAYS

The Renaissance in Toronto

Where you’re staying: Bi-level suites on the first floor
Why: The hotel is literally in the stadium. Just be warned: due to some past incidents, you’ll be asked to sign a contract promising not to engage in any... ahem, curtains-open tomfoolery during the game.

CARDINALS

The Hilton in St. Louis

Where you’re staying: One of the top seven floors
Why: Because you can peer out over left field in the new Busch Stadium and check out the Arch in the distance, all while enjoying the typical suite amenities. You’ve always wanted to watch Chris Carpenter pitch while you were ironing.

PIRATES

The Fairmont in Pittsburgh

Where you’re staying: The River Ballpark Rooms, Deluxe River Ballpark Rooms or the River Suites on floors 18 to 23
Why: While the on-field action’s pretty ugly—the Pirates haven’t had a winning season in 17 years—Pittsburgh’s PNC Park is one of the league’s most scenic stadiums. Though you might want to avert your eyes during the actual game.

TWINS

The Marriott in Minneapolis

Where you’re staying: Room #3114, a bi-level suite on the top floor
Why: The Twins’ new stadium debuted this year, and it’s a whole lot easier to look into than their old home—the Metrodome. That said, something tells us you’ll prefer staying indoors while taking in a game in Minnesota in September.

The Hilton in Baltimore

Where you’re staying: The Hospitality Suite
Why: Sure, Camden Yards’ brick walls and famous right field warehouse are handsome. But sometimes you need to retreat to a suite with some bottles of bubbly, a giant bed and something called a Serenity Bath. Go ahead, invite Cal Ripken.
