Phoenix Rising

Resurrecting History’s Most Iconic Clothes

None Elvis Presley called. He wants his jacket back.

No, seriously...

Get nostalgic for Phoenix Project, a new site that’s recreating some of history’s most venerable articles of handsomeness (like, say, the King’s favorite leather jacket), online now.

Here’s the deal: this place takes extinct pieces of iconic menswear and brings them back to life. Think cloning. Think sartorial Jurassic Park. Think... you wearing the exact same denim button-down James Dean sported on the set of Giant.

Now, they only do one or two pieces at a time (apparently resurrection is hard work), but they’re constantly conducting polls or taking suggestions for future ideas. So suggest something. Bogart’s Casablanca trench coat. Selleck’s Magnum, P.I. shorts.

Then, if your idea gets enough traction, the folks here’ll do everything from consulting archival footage to contacting biographers to enlisting the aid of an old tailor in order to create a limited run of ultra-precise replicas.

Side note: Halloween is 294 days away.
