Step 1: Ask yourself, “Self, do I know exactly where my coffee comes from, who grows it and when it was packed, and do I then control the entire production process to ensure I’m drinking the best coffee possible?”

If your answer is yes, well, we didn’t see that coming. But keep on doing whatever it is you’re doing.

Otherwise, kindly proceed to step 2.

Step 2: Meet Bonaverde, a Berlin-based venture that’s connecting you directly with coffee farmers and also providing you with an impressive device to roast, grind and brew beans at home. They’re taking preorders now and will begin shipping this summer.

So, first up, the beans. See, in your average transaction, the farmer-to-consumer chain of custody is a lengthy one with a lot of middlemen, which raises your price and decreases the farmer’s profits. But here, you’re able to order beans directly from the growers. They handle all the packing and shipping, and you handle all the receiving and drinking. It’s a very symbiotic relationship.

Each bag of beans is tagged with an RFID chip containing digital instructions with optimal roasting levels and grind size, so you don’t have to think much. You just have to scan that chip with the machine’s scanner (it’s a very smart machine). And since it’s got a built-in roaster and grinder, it’ll do all the heavy lifting to prep those beans to their exact specifications. It also brews them.

So a few minutes later, you’re left with a pot of actual, liquid, extra-fresh coffee. That’s the point at which you can begin drinking the stuff.

In case that wasn’t abundantly clear.
