DOWNTOWN

Free Cocktails and a Block Party

If you're a downtown dweller, tonight's your chance to finally meet and mingle with some of those comely neighbors you've made eye contact with at Starbucks. It all goes down at Tre, where gratis vodka cocktails and free Italian food ought to break the proverbial condo-canyon ice.

Miami Does NYC Doing Havana

Your weekend begins in earnest tomorrow night with a monthly party at Grass, which will be transforming into the iconic 1960s NYC club Havana San Juan. BEYOND THE BUNNY

Hugh Hefner, Freedom Fighter

You can see many noteworthy movies at this year's Miami Film Festival, but we'd like to draw your attention to the new doc Hugh Hefner: Playboy, Activist and Rebel. Directed by an Oscar winner, this intimate portrait illuminates the silk pajama'd icon's legacy as a social activist and humanitarian. It also explores the lost art of dating twins.

MEATBALLS

A New Italian in Midtown

The old Moriano's space is now reborn as Basani's, a funky Italian joint modeled on neighborhood haunts on New York's Lower East Side. Go here for reasonably priced red-sauce standbys like Eggplant Parmigiana, pastas and pizzas like the belly-filling Chicken Bacon Alfredo. Everything's better with chicken bacon Alfredo. Except a marathon.

Now open, Basani's, 3221 NE Second Ave, 786-925-0911

POURING IT ON

Endless Wine to Start Your Week

Come Monday, it'll be all right. And if it isn't, you'll have a self-serve wine tasting at Smith & Wollensky to lean on. While the exact wine list for the evening is a well-guarded secret, we hear you can expect more than 100 Portuguese offerings, from ports to moscatels. And yes, you really can drink as much as you want. Just don't embarrass us.
