The Broken Shaker

Shake It Up

The City’s First Pop-Up Bar

None
The phrase “broken shaker” calls to mind two things:

—Errant barware.
—The long-lost (and thankfully never-released) prequel to Cocktail.

You, however, will soon hear Broken Shaker, soft-opening tonight, and think late-night Miami Beach hangout set to offer what’s much more important in life: pickles and a strong cocktail.

Tucked away at the deco Indian Creek Hotel, the tiny joint—there are about 12 seats inside—is the city’s first pop-up bar (they’ll only be around for the next six months). It’s where you’ll find the drink wizards behind Bar Lab quietly slinging creative Old Fashioneds with some of their 100-plus homemade bitters (rosewater, celery, jasmine, the like).

You’ll head here, a place outfitted in Prohibition-style damask wallpaper and vintage glassware, for a nightcap like The Blossom (made with rum and Lebanese coffee) and marvel at the handcraftedness of it all. Your ice: custom-frozen, including spheres, cylinders and glass-shaped cubes. The Kentucky mint in your julep: growing in the courtyard on the trellis by the gurgling fountain.

Which brings us to your alfresco options: antique velvet sofas and a tiki bar where you’ll taste-test the Agave Garden made with seaweed-infused tequila. And spend lazy Sunday afternoons noshing on homemade pickles and chicken sugarcane skewers while soaking in the poolside vibes.

You do your best soaking with tequila.
