Urban Legend
A $20-per-Night Brickell Hideaway (Sort Of)
Living in Miami necessitates knowing a thing or two about hotels in the city.
For the yacht enthusiast in town for the Boat Show, there's the Fontainebleau and Eden Roc tip. The Loews
works during the South Beach Wine and Food Fest for Emeril sightings, while the Gansevoort is probably the
best bet for that aspiring DJ flying down for the Winter Music Conference.
And for that visiting exec who's into art and needs to stay close to downtown, there's the
Hotel
Urbano, a new boutique hotel that doubles as an art gallery, now open on Brickell with rooms going for
an enticing $20.10 a night.
Think of Urbano as the quirky bohemian alternative to the sleek skyscraper hotels available in downtown
(sort of like a Mallory in a vast landscape of Alex P. Keatons). Located on the southern end of the
Financial District, this place is ideal for a stay during the Sony-Ericsson tennis tourney or for quick
stints to the Grove and the Gables during busy season.
Stepping in,
the hotel reminds you of a
gallery in the Design District, and that's no coincidence. The owners have partnered with a curator from
Art Fusion Galleries to deck the place in contemporary art, and everything from the giant paintings in the
lobby to metal sculptures by the pool is created by local artists and up for sale.
Go ahead, pretend it's still Art Basel.
