To the Naples Grande Beach Resort—it’s a newly renovated Gulf Coast playground bringing more bungalows, bubbly and paddleboarding to our placid sister shores, now open and taking reservations in Naples.
Quick backstory: this used to be a Waldorf Astoria. But $20 million later, it’s got a new lease on life with 474 balconied guest rooms (including 50 bungalow suites), seven restaurants and bars, 15 tennis courts and an indoor/outdoor spa village with a meditation labyrinth.
Go ahead, take a look around. Sure, you’ve still got those gorgeous Gulf views and that long boardwalk winding through a 200-acre mangrove estuary to three miles of powdery beach. But now, that beach will be greeting you with new cabanas, stand-up paddleboards and a Mediterranean restaurant for a midafternoon merienda of grilled-octopus salad, feta flatbread and an ouzo-laced Greek Bomb.
And if you should so happen to have a three-day weekend quickly approaching (ahem), you might want to take advantage of this place with a friend. Maybe play some cornhole on the beach. Kayak through the mangroves. Test out the fortitude of the 100-foot waterslide by the pool. Or watch the sunset with some champagne.
