The Vagabond: Resurrected

Great win by the Dolphins yesterday.

More great news: this place is back—The Vagabond Hotel, a landmark retreat fully restored to all of her astroturf-laden, ’50s-era glory, now open in MiMo. (See the slideshow here.)

When people wanted an alternative vacation spot to the Fontainebleau back in 1953, they redirected their Studebakers to the Vagabond. In fact, the original sign touting the spot’s air-conditioned status is still out front.

And the whole place still exudes that 1950s, feel-good vibe. You’ll find the original Dade pine floors in some of the 45 rooms and new retro touches like mid-century modern nightstands and space-age table lamps. Also, you’ll get your choice of rubber ducky to use as a room key. (We’re all about the crucial intel here, people.)

Now, you could make this your base of operations for whatever holiday staycations you’re planning. But you could also just hole up here for a day and take advantage of the pool area, with its freshly laid astroturf, mermaid and dolphin mosaics, and rum cocktails from the (soon-to-open) bar.

Nothing like the smell of freshly laid astroturf in the morning.
