Valentine's Day for Oyster Lovers

Valentine's Day is many things to many people, but let's be honest, it's the one holiday when oysters take center stage. Check out our list of the best bivalves in the city where you and your sweetheart can have a good shuck.

Two-for-One Oysters at Cape Cod

Starting next Wednesday, the tony New England supper club will be doling out $6 cocktails like the Nor'easter (Barbancourt reserve rum with Jamaican ginger beer), along with two-for-one Wellfleet and Island Creek oysters. Fried Ipswich clams are also two-for-one, in case you feel like branching out, shellfish-wise.

Oyster Doughnuts at the Setai

The tucked-away Grill at the Setai recently introduced top-notch tapas like sea urchin scrambled eggs and crab-stuffed piquillo peppers. But the life-altering gems we're concerned with are the oyster beignets, a happy marriage of fluffy fried dough and sweet briny nubbins. Each seafood pop'em comes nestled on cauliflower cream and topped with caviar.

Oyster-Spiked Chocolate

Normally we don't advocate mixing seafood with chocolate, but the mad-scientist confectioners at Vosges have managed to join the two into a tasty and potent truffle. As part of their Valentine's-themed Sweet Coquette collection, you'll get two white-chocolate Kumamoto truffles, made with pearl dust and extracts of Kumamoto oysters.

The dapper bartenders at retro seafood house The Oceanaire have devised a cocktail that unites two perfect worlds: the raw bar and the martini bar. Composed of vodka spiked with red wine and garnished with a plump West Coast oyster that's been cured in 10-year scotch, it packs a smoky punch.

All Systems Go at Grass
