Meet Fresh American Bistro, a new beachside bistro of classic Americana, comfort food and comfort beer, now open in Sunny Isles Beach. (See the slideshow.)

This is from chef Philippe Ruiz of Palme d’Or fame. He figured it was time to freshen up some American classics with a bit of French je ne sais something. So he took over the old Alba space at Solé and pretty much did just that.

Inside, it feels like a beach shack that might’ve belonged to John Quincy Adams. It’s got wainscoting. Paddles. Surfboards. And a huge American flag hovering over the bar’s ceiling. Perhaps you and a date could split some Wagyu sliders under it...

... while drinking some beer. And humming the national anthem. That last one’s not mandatory.

But for dinner, you’ll want to retreat to one of the four tables outside on the sand dunes. There you’ll have a front-row seat to the sun setting over the Atlantic, flutes filled with something fizzy and plates brimming with stone crabs and an overstuffed lobster club.

Not the worst way to spend a night.
