Double Trouble

On One Hand: Oysters. On the Other: Crepes.

Two new restaurants to talk about today. No time to waste...

1. A day without oysters is a day... well, best not to think about it.

Besides, you don’t have to. Midtown Oyster Bar, a cozy little haven of bivalves and wine from the Graspa Group (you know them from Salumeria 104 and Tiramesu), is opening tonight.

What you’ve got here: oysters—obviously. They’ll have anywhere from six to 12 kinds on rotation. And you’ll be slurping them up in a New England–style cottage with porthole light fixtures. (Take a look here.)

And what goes with oysters: wine, naturally. And maybe a lobster roll with some clam chowder.

Sorry, that’s “chow-dah.”

2. France. We’re sure it’s lovely this time of year.

But totally inconvenient.

What with Basel right around the corner and all.

Probably just get your Franco-fix at Brasserie Central, a little bistro from Pascal Oudin, open right now in the Gables. (See the slideshow here.)

At this place you can...

... grab a casual weekday lunch of quiche and croque monsieur at the indoor/outdoor bar.

... fill that 14-seat communal table with charcuterie, bottles of red wine and a spirited group of dinner guests.

... eat a crêpe suzette or a warm Belgian waffle drizzled with Chantilly and caramel.

All by yourself. Because f**k it.
