A Golden Temple of Steak and Caviar

Good things come in threes.

Third time’s a charm.

Three’s company.

Maybe you get where we’re going with this...

Yup, Michael Mina’s third local ode to the art of a perfectly grilled slab of beef, Stripsteak, is opening tonight in the Fontainebleau. (See the slideshow here.)

First, there was Bourbon Steak. Then came Mina 74. Now, this: a gold-dipped temple of meat that’s taken over the old Gotham Steak spot.

It’s a bi-level setup here. Upstairs: a bar with a lounge-y vibe. But downstairs, well, that’s a throwback to the Rat Pack era: gold banquettes circling the room. A massive chandelier. A bar slinging classic things like Sazeracs and Old Fashioneds.

Some advice: pass it all. Head toward the glass-encased open kitchen and stake out a booth there. Yes, that’s where they’ll be preparing things like a 50-ounce tomahawk topped with foie. (Also, other stuff you’ll find on the menu here.)

So picture it: you. A date. Some synchronous head nodding to a DJ set. Subtle innuendo over golden osetra and tartare, followed by not-so-subtle... whatevers on the bamboo-shrouded patio out by the pool.

Oh yeah, there’s a bamboo-shrouded patio out by the pool.
