Power of Five

A Mexican Temple in Merrick Park

Let’s be honest.

You don’t need a reason to drink tequila. But still, a nationally recognized holiday never hurts.

And neither does a new cathedral of pork belly tacos...

Say hola to Cinco, home of generously spiked margaritas and sizzling fajitas, open today from 11am onwards for Mexican mayhem in Coral Gables.

There’s a lot to take in when you enter this sprawling mega-pueblo in the Village of Merrick Park. First, the sheer size of the place—over 300 seats inside and another 30 or so outdoors. And then there are the chopper-style bikes positioned over the booths, exuding their lowrider Chicano cool. (Yes, this is a great spot to take your bike gang for post-ride Coronas.)

But you’ll want to start your añejo-soaked journey at the bar (you always do), where you’ll be greeted with half a dozen types of ’ritas—from the classic frozen version to a locally influenced mango number. Once your party settles in at one of the big communal tables, you’ll want to attack the rice-and-beans-con-everything menu, starting with Shrimp Empanadas and segueing to platters of enchiladas and the Tequila Mojo Marinated Skirt Steak.

It’s like fighting fire with fire.
