La Sandwicherie Goes Downtown

You’ve said it before and you’ll say it again: downtown is looking more like the Beach every day.

Pool parties are popping up on the mainland. Your office instituted Bikini Fridays. And just the other day you swore you saw a volleyball pop-up game in the middle of Calle Ocho.

And now, the latest specimen of downtown’s Beach-ification: La Sandwicherie Brickell opens today, bringing their legendary prosciutto-laden baguettes, French accents and 4am DJ-fueled snack fests over the causeway.

Think of this as a bigger, air-conditioned version of the 23-year-old sandwich bar. There are 50 seats here and a handful of tables, so no more haggling for elbow room as you conquer that Prosciutto & Fresh Mozzarella on a French baguette. And all that extra counter space has translated into new sandwich territory in their Hot Plates section: meaning seven types of croques, including one with salmon and one with roast beef (like a Parisian cheesesteak).

But if you’re coming here for your usual late-night fix (they’ll stay open until 5am on Fridays and Saturdays) of Turkey & Camembert on a croissant, you’ll find that, too. Along with the occasional UFC fight on the giant flat-screens and a DJ spinning French pop on the weekends.

Fingers crossed for Carla Bruni’s greatest hits.
