Viva Mexico
Your Guide to Mexican Independence Day
This week, you’ve got one mission and one mission only: to celebrate Mexico’s freedom from colonial
rule—preferably by sampling the city’s tequilas with fervor and gusto. Viva la Ciudad del Pecado.
THE PARTY
Partying with Ms. Mexico at Blush
Technically, the big day’s on Thursday, but you’ve never been one to stand on ceremony—particularly
when a flock of pageant girls from the Señorita Mexico US contest are involved. Tonight, they’re
decamping to Blush to pique your interest in Latin-American colonial history—and anything else that needs
piquing.

EL REY
Elvis Lives at Tacos & Tequila
Somehow, Elvis’s passionate support for Mexican independence never quite made the headlines (possibly
because we made it up), so T&T is correcting the injustice with a balloon-stomping tournament and a
taco-fueled Elvis costume competition. Extra points will be awarded for a well-accented “muchas
gracias.”
The Luxor’s agave-minded outpost has possibly the perfect place to raise a glass to Mexico—a private
room with over a hundred styles of tequila—and they’re bringing in a live mariachi band to get you in an
appropriately patriotic mood. In honor of independence, they’ll even give you half off their usual happy
hour prices—just as Mexico’s founding fathers decreed.

THE TECH
Hologram Burlesque at Lolita’s
If you want a more forward-thinking celebration, Lolita’s will be tempting patriots with life-size
holographic projections of burlesque dancers. You’ll also have a powerful house margarita at your
disposal, but that’s very, very real.
It’s not a victory without a toast, so Fusion is offering a concoction dubbed El Grito de laIndependencia, mixed together from strawberries, lime juice, limoncello and, of course, tequila. It
tastes like a cross between a margarita and freedom.
