Sometimes, when you suddenly realize it's been too long, you really need it. Now. Can't think of anything
else.
Good news—your overdue haircut awaits you at the new but old-timey
Baxter Finley Barber &
Shop, soft-opening tomorrow on La Cienega.
There aren't a lot of gimmicks happening here—no bourbon, no chessboards, no flat-screens with the
game—just a dapper four-seater of a spot with
white tile, marble and reclaimed Douglas fir. But the head barber came over from NYC's famed
Freemans Sporting Club, they're all wearing specially made Steven Alan gingham, and those four seats are
restored Koken originals, about a century old. (For all you know, Charlie Chaplin got his mustache trimmed
in one of them.)
Settle in for a cut ($40), a shave ($40) or both ($75), and if you need supplies afterwards, they've got
Baxter brushes and razors you won't find elsewhere. (Baxter products have been around since 1965, but this
is their first barbershop.) And they're the only place around stocking retaW goods from Japan (you've always
looked to the East when it comes to creams).
And since the shop is the new neighbor to Opening Ceremony, A.P.C. and Roger Room, you can stay on foot and
get all your needs taken care of.
Well, almost all.
