Days of Haven
Beer, Burgers and Suckling Pig
In a faraway land, something glorious is brewing.
Okay, it’s not that far away—it’s in Pasadena. And what’s brewing... is beer.
Welcome to
Haven, a new gastropub and brewery offering rivers of beer, wine on tap and feasts of
whole suckling pig, opening Thursday.
Both architecturally and spiritually,
the axis of this
place is the sturdy bar. You’ll see 52 tap handles behind it—they’ll be brewing several beers
in-house here (an IPA, a Hefeweizen and some seasonal hops), and eight of those handles are for wine.
So after you and a friend start there with a beer or a
Revolver (it’s whiskey, cherry vanilla and
a smoking ice cube—you’ll see), pivot right or pivot left. You can get your
lamb burger, duo
of quail or pheasant pot pie in either of the two dining rooms, both heavy on concrete, exposed beams
and copper. But if you’re on a date, go right for a chocolate leather booth by the fireplace. (Obvious,
yes. Classic... also yes.)
Or if you’ve got a dozen relatives crashing into town for the holidays—and let’s just say they’re
descended from Vikings—call up Haven a week in advance, and they’ll prep you a whole roasted suckling
pig, served family-style with plenty of sides.
The helmets with the horns are up to you.
