Hollywood’s New Bowling Lounge

Ah, bowling.

The shoes. The strikes. The fancy cocktails and supplementary chessboards...

Okay, so maybe that’s not the type of bowling you’re used to. But we have reason to believe it’s in your future. So put on your blazer and talc up...

Introducing The Spare Room, a refined new bowling lounge tucked into the Hollywood Roosevelt, officially opening tonight.

Basically, if The Big Lebowski had been directed by Tom Ford instead of the Coens, you probably would’ve seen The Dude, Donny and Sobchak bowling in something like this. It’s a regal rec room filled with chessboard tables, art books, a brass-and-leather bar and a pair of gleaming bowling lanes. No bathrobes allowed.

So, you’ll call ahead to make a reservation, take your seat in the lower lounge and start with a friendly game of walnut-gridded Connect Four or snakeskin-embossed Yahtzee. Helping quench your thirst: a metal punchbowl filled with the Spare Room Snap (bourbon and ginger liqueur).

Then, when it’s your turn to hit the lanes, you’ll be brought a pair of shoes made by cobbler-to-the-stars George Esquivel. (You only bowl in sneakers made by guys who outfit Kevin Costner.)

And afterwards, you’ll probably want to commemorate your triple-digit effort with a few photos in the secret photo booth, hidden behind one of the walls.

Just exercise caution when pulling random walls.
