A Vast Exhibit of ’80s Sports Posters

LACMA. MOCA. Other museums with less catchy acronyms.
This town’s got a great art scene, sure—but it’s historically light on awesome late-’80s sports
posters.
Until now. Take a discerning look at
For the Kids, an art show made up of only the finest retro
posters of professional athletes, opening tomorrow in West Hollywood.
Picture the walls of your cousin’s basement rec room back in junior high. Transfer the posters to
present-day WeHo and voilà: you’ve got this show. All in all, there are about 60 posters designed,
created and shot by the Costacos brothers. Think Michael Jordan slam-dunking the moon, Herschel “H-Bomb”
Walker in front of a giant explosion or Todd Christensen standing proudly with a football and an ascot under
the saying “In Todd We Trust.” (See what they did there...)
And because art this important should never be shortchanged, the exhibit’s actually going down in two
gallery spaces at the same time. If you’re hitting the opening bash tomorrow, start at Country
Club—they’ll be pouring gratis beer from 6 to 9pm, then the party shifts over to gallery number two at
the Mondrian, just off the lobby. (Apps and more beer from 9 to 11pm.)
Everybody loves a good doubleheader.
