Boiling Point
Fondue and Self-Cooked Meat Downtown

On a nondescript Downtown corner, a new restaurant is heating up.

Literally—pots of boiling water on every table. Welcome to Yojié, an unusual (and purple) new Japanese enclave now quietly open.

First off, you won't come here for sushi. They don't have it. This is shabu-shabu gone mainstream—so here's what you do. After the game at Staples just down the street, grab one of the bamboo-topped booths at the back. They'll get the water boiling in the middle of your table, and you'll order some raw portions of Angus, chicken, seafood and Kobe—sliced so thinly that they're cooked just seconds after you drop them into the water.

Generally this is a pretty healthy way of eating—but thankfully they offer plenty of weird ways to get around that. Like Japanese Floats, made of rice soda and ice cream, and several rounds of sake cocktails. (They just got their liquor license yesterday. So yes, they're ready for you now.)

And once all that's done, they'll bring out a bowl to be placed over the pot, and suddenly you're dipping strawberries and pastries into Green Tea Chocolate Fondue.

It's like the Transformers of Downtown tables.
