Don Look Now

Pregaming with Margaritas, Rooftop Views and Mole

Nothing new at Staples Center yesterday.

Lakers lost.

Still no rose petal mole.

But today... things will be different.

At least on the mole front.

Two points for Don Chente Bar-Grill & Lounge, a new mole hub with rooftop tequila right across from Staples Center, soft-opening today in Downtown. (See the slideshow.)

Pretty perfect pre-, mid- and postgame spot here, obviously. A spot where you and your friends can hit the heavily wooded dining room for a Grammy-winning house mariachi band—they play Thursday through Sunday—and moles made with white chocolate, rose petals and tequila from Rocio Camacho, who wins a lot of mole awards without any Neil Patrick Harris shenanigans.

To drink: La Mezcalitas (mezcal with raspberries and chocolate bitters), añejo-laced mules... or tall, tall beers in 100-ounce glasses.

And that’s all pretty enticing. Rose petal mole. But there’s also quite a rooftop lounge situation. It’s called Fuego, and it’s where you’ll eat al-pastor-and-pineapple pizza with mole buffalo wings while taking in the skyline overhead, the gathering Staples crowds below and maybe the game on the four screens.

If you’re a masochist.
