Oysters and Beer on the PCH

Indisputable fact: the Hungry Cat is pretty much perfect. Oysters, gin, a killer burger—there’s nothing else you need.

And yet... there’s something else you need.

This time of year, with summer opening up before you, you can’t help but crave your seafood by the sea. You know: turning into a little shack off the PCH come sundown. Not holing up in some dark Hollywood courtyard.

Well, the kitty has come through again—so put the top down and point your wheels toward the new Santa Monica Canyon outpost of The Hungry Cat, now open by the shore.

Basically, it’s everything you know and love from the original Hollywood spot, but just a little... more. More room. More caviar. More stools at the raw bar. More... actual sea air to go with your oysters, clams and lobster claws.

And instead of a stark, industrial Hollywood loft, it’s blue and gray and nautical—like you’ve been dropped in a Hamptons summer house, and your host makes some potent Kill Devils (with bourbon, crushed ginger, lime and cherries).

And don’t worry: they also have that Pug Burger here, taller than it is wide, topped with blue cheese, bacon, avocado and a fried egg.

You never want to be more than 10 miles from a pug burger.
