One of these days, you’re going to wake up and everything’s going to be different.

Maybe on the day you wake up in Central Africa along an ancient camel-caravan route.

Startle yourself with Ancient Caravans of Chad, a four-wheel-drive odyssey among rarely explored regions of Africa, booking now for November and February departures.

This is the first-ever US-led trip to Chad, so you’ve got a lot of ground to cover. Seventeen days’ worth, to be exact. So take a look at it all here. And now, read on for your highly abridged itinerary.

Days 1-2:
You’ll spend some time in N’Djamena, Chad’s capital and largest city. You’ll stay at a hotel with a guitar-shaped pool, explore spice markets and sample “esh,” the local staple of millet porridge with goat meat. You’ll know how Anthony Bourdain feels.

Days 3-17:
Here’s where the caravanning begins. You’ll hop in a 4x4. You’ll be on roads. You’ll be on ancient camel routes. You’ll be zigzagging through the lake-rich UNESCO World Heritage site to the south and the arid dunes to the north, stopping only to set up camp for the night. Well, also whenever something interesting crops up. Like nomadic tribes. Saharan crocodiles. Date-palm oases. Giant balls of twine.

No, wait, that’s in Kansas.
