Things to do for August 20, 2015

The Weekender

Your Weekend: Whiskey. Cider. Kolaches.

The weekend gives as good as it gets.

Thursday
Two Weeks of Whiskey and Cigars
KEEP IT CIVIL

Two Weeks of Whiskey and Cigars

Restaurant Week. It’s... fine. But Whiskey Week just sounds better. And Whiskey Weeks sounds better than that. Civil Cigar Lounge is in the midst of two weeks of whiskey flights, like “County Cork,” “The Peats” and “NKOTB.” No Wahlbergs were involved in the making of those whiskeys.

A Candlelit Basement Full of Wine
CELLAR DWELLERS

A Candlelit Basement Full of Wine

Georgetown’s ENO Wine Bar just got more date-worthy. Because they’ve turned their basement wine cellar into a candlelit hideaway, where you can sit on suede seats and decide among 233 wines by the bottle or 26 flights. It’s cozy, it’s dark, it’s romantic. And that’s probably enough adjectives.

Now open, The Cellar at ENO Wine Bar, 2810 Pennsylvania Ave NW, 202-295-2826

Friday
12 Hours of Food, Bands and Beer
TRUCKER CAP

12 Hours of Food, Bands and Beer

You know what they say: when the Nats are away, the trucks will play. Okay, they don’t say that, but nevertheless, here comes another 12-hour Truckeroo at the Fairgrounds, with 25 trucks, three bands and an alfresco beer garden. May we suggest a two-trucks-per-hour pace.

Aug 21, 11am-11pm, no cost for entry, Truckeroo at the Fairgrounds, 1201 Half St SE

Saturday
The Kolaches Are Here
CZECH, MATE

The Kolaches Are Here

And now, for probably the only thing the Czech Republic and Texas have in common: these Czech pastries, filled with egg and cheese, or blueberry. They’re from a couple of transplanted Houstonians, and you’ll find them at American Ice Co. Look for the neon cowboy hat. Really.

There’s a New Cidery Near You

Your appetite for interesting adult beverages knows no bounds. Nor does your desire to escape the city in August. Here to help with both: Wild Hare, a new Loudoun County micro-cidery in an old mill. Have a taste, then bring home enough oak-and-chestnut-aged dry cider to last you till Thanksgiving.

Now open Sat-Sun, noon-5pm, Wild Hare Hard Cider, 33735 Snickersville Tpke, Ste 104, Bluemont, VA, 703-216-8630
