Things to do for October 23, 2014

The Weekender

Junk Food, DIY Manhattans and a Beer Garden

The weekend’s bark is worse than its bite.

Your Black Clothes Have Arrived
ZAD EYES

Your Black Clothes Have Arrived

Now that you’ve put those pastels away for winter, you’ll need something to replace them. Yup, these should work. Zadig & Voltaire is now open at CityCenterDC, and they’ve brought all sorts of rock-and-roll-inspired stuff from Paris. Black blazers, black peacoats, black sweaters. And a couple dark-blue things.

Friday
Where Wine Meets Junk Food
ANOTHER DAY IN PARADISE

Where Wine Meets Junk Food

Wine pairings: steak gets red, fish gets white, Doritos and Twix bars get... yeah we don’t know either. But Paradise Springs Winery is taking a crack at it. They’re serving a flight of all their wines, each paired with a “brand name” junk food. Maybe tannin does cut through hydrogenated oils.

Drinking Beer in the Middle of Rosslyn
OVER THE BRIDGE

Drinking Beer in the Middle of Rosslyn

There’s a new plaza in the middle of Rosslyn. This probably isn’t important to you. Except tomorrow, when it’s going to be sunny and 67 degrees, and there’ll be a beer garden there. Expect seven mostly Oktoberfest and pumpkin beers, live music and a bratwurst food truck. Of course.

Sunday
Palena’s Chef Is Cooking Again
FURST THINGS FURST

Palena’s Chef Is Cooking Again

Palena and its burger. Still gone, unfortunately. But its chef and pastry chef are at it again, this time at a series of pop-ups at the Bread Furst bakery. There’ll be antipasto plus three courses, either at a table for two, or a big communal table for 16. Aka the risk/reward option.
