It’s the Summer of Love. It’s the dawning of the Age of Aquarius.

Actually, it’s neither. But if you’d like to suspend disbelief for a bit, we’ve got a place for you.

It’s called Villain & Saint. It’s a love letter to the rock clubs of yore by fine-dining stalwart Robert Wiedmaier, and it opens tonight in Bethesda.

Okay, so maybe it’s not as gritty as CBGB or Fillmore West. But hey, take a look here. There’s a lava lamp wall. Vintage phonograph horns fashioned into lights over the metal bar. A gallery of dead rock star portraits. And here’s how you might use it:

If you’re the push-your-way-up-front type: Head for the bar first. Grab one of the 14 American drafts and some hand-friendly food like pork-shoulder burritos, then move toward the stage.

If you’re the sit-in-back-and-study-the-guitar-player type: Get there early. Grab a four-top. Ask about the whiskey cocktail with bacon ice. Then drink it.

If you just want to eat: Proceed to the back patio, where they’ll still stream the night’s music. Then decide between “villain” menu items like St. Louis ribs and vegetarian “saint” items like zucchini pancakes.

The price of sainthood has gone down, apparently.
