Whiskey and a Rooftop in Adams Morgan

If you’re going to get all worked up and have an insurrection, it better be about something important. Like whiskey.

Also: if you’re going to make evening/weekend plans, it better be about something important. Like whiskey.

Therefore: Rebellion, a new indoor/outdoor bar inspired by the Whiskey Rebellion of 1794, opens this afternoon at the foot of Adams Morgan.

You’ve probably been in a place like this before—brick, steel, whiskey barrels, reclaimed wood. Although here, the wood is from pallets at the A. Smith Bowman distillery. Nice touch.

So you’ll know what to do. Set up at a communal table and start exploring the 60 beers, the barrel-aged drinks or cocktails like the Legacy, a bourbon, balsamic vinegar and ginger beer concoction that was supposedly Capone’s favorite.

But dammit, it’s nice out. So the superior move may be to post up on the sidewalk patio—or better yet, the rooftop bar. That’s where you’ll grab a table and order up Southern food like Kentucky Hot Browns and jambalaya, and investigate some less-brown drink options, like the Randolph (gin and watermelon) and the Mortimer (gin and rhubarb soda), both inspired by the comedy classic Trading Places.

Jamie Lee Curtis cocktail TBD.
