Dacha Beer Garden

One preseason comes to a close tonight: the NFL preseason.

But another preseason is just getting under way: the Oktoberfest preseason.

Which reminds us: you’ve got some training to do...

Say guten tag to Dacha Beer Garden, an open-air haven of ale and merriment, now open in Shaw.

Think of this as a nice corner park: flowers, a wrought-iron fence, a concrete walkway, a mural going up. Only this one has picnic tables with umbrellas, and a few potted trees tastefully ringing the keg cooler. So, really, a bit unlike most corner city parks.

There aren’t many diversions here, either—no TVs, no corn toss—so bring a group whose company you actually enjoy.

Then get on to the 12 drafts. Since you brought a group, start with a tray of kölsch—11 glasses arrayed in a circle. Then investigate the rest. About half are German, and they come in a half-liter or a full-liter boot. You’ll also find a couple Belgians and American micros.

In coming weeks, expect food trucks on the curb during happy hour, bottles of wine and an all-season enclosure with a fire pit. Oh, and that mural going up... it’s a giant, three-story painting of Liz Taylor.

We’re not sure why.
