Five New Patios That You Should Check Out

It’s mid-April. Which means: tax time. The Caps are donezo. And time to consume as many cocktails as possible on patios. Speaking of which, here’s a handy guide to the new and notable in alfresco-ness, conveniently arranged by time of day. In case you have 16 hours to kill.

Duke’s Grocery
FOR A BREAKFAST BASE TAN

Duke’s Grocery

The time: 11am.
The scene: The London-style spot is open for breakfast, so grab one of their 45 seats early.
The provisions: Check the blackboard, but expect stuff like black pudding and a “proper” English breakfast. And their new G & Tea, with Green Hat gin and green tea.

Closed for equipment repair until Apr 16, 8am, Duke’s Grocery, 1513 17th St NW, 202-733-5623

Iron Gate
FOR THE OPEN AIR POWER LUNCH

Iron Gate

The time: 1pm.
The scene: In between the carriageway bar and the formal dining room, you’ll find this all-brick patio, covered in trellises and vines—in case the midday sun’s too much.
The provisions: Things you’d find on the Aegean Sea, like garlic-heavy pastas, gyros and oak-roasted duck legs.

Mission
FOR THE ALFRESCO HAPPY HOUR

Mission

The time: 5pm.
The scene: Slate floors, iron railings and a string of Edison bulbs overhead, while you get in some prime Dupont Metro people-watching.
The provisions: They’ll have the full menu out there, but since it’s happy hour, focus on the beer, margarita and tequila-shot deals.

Mission, 1606 20th St NW, 202-525-2010

Eno Wine Bar
FOR TWILIGHT WINE

Eno Wine Bar

The time: 8pm.
The scene: A Georgetown sidewalk. But with your own unlimited supply of wine. Which is nice.
The provisions: Flights of bubblies and big reds. If the sun’s gone down, you can also get a chocolate flight without it melting.

Rose’s Luxury
FOR LATE-NIGHT FOODIE-NESS

Rose’s Luxury

The time: 10pm.
The scene: Well, it’ll be dark. But you’ll be surrounded by lanterns. And wooden planters. And foodies.
The provisions: You might get foie gras french toast or pasta with strawberries, but as you’ve probably heard, they change it a lot. And it’s really good.
