Two New Ways to Get Your Sugar Fix

None 6 Photos Sugar Shack Donuts and Captain Cookie & the Milkman
Friday. It’s like the dessert of the workweek. Fitting, then, that we’ve got two new places that go heavy on the sugar.

First up, Sugar Shack Donuts, now open in Old Town Alexandria.
The pedigree: These guys have two shops in Richmond, where they’ve acquired a cult following.
The scene: Coffee-shop chic—concrete floors, barnwood, chalkboards. Take a look here.
You’re there for... Puffy, yeasty (and often still-warm) donuts. Flavors change all day, but think strawberry frosted and maple-bacon.
Unless you’re... Just here for the coffee. In which case try the cold-brew from an enormous funnel that takes 12 hours to make one batch.

And on to Captain Cookie & the Milkman, now open in the 2000 Penn building in Foggy Bottom.
The pedigree: This comes from the food trucks by the same name.
The scene: A line of cookie enthusiasts snaking under a superhero mural (see it here) and past a quick-serve counter featuring workers in Cookie Monster hats.
You’re there for... A nightcap of the dairy-rich kind (they’re open until 2am on weekends). Like Nutella cookies and ice cream sandwiches.
Unless you’re... Just getting them delivered. They’ll drop off any quantity of cookies for a $10 charge.

They’ll deliver your chocolate milk, too.
