Eat the Rich

That’s Rich

It’s a Heavy Metal Oyster Bar

Classic heavy metal.

It conjures images of vans with airbrushed wizards on the side, women writhing on the hoods of Camaros. Oh, and oysters.

At least that’s what it conjures starting tomorrow evening...

Say hi to Eat the Rich, opening Saturday night in Shaw from cocktail guru Derek Brown and the Rappahannock Oyster guys.

It’s loud in here. Boisterous, even. Maybe it’s the black spray-painted brick and the safety glass everywhere. Maybe it’s the Iron Maiden and Mötley Crüe on the speakers. Anyway, it’s just the kind of place to lead a group of folks you’re getting to know a bit better.

Grab a few stools at the long bar. Or one of the communal tables in back, underneath oyster cages hanging from the ceiling. Kick off the conversation by saying, “You know, the name of this place came from a Motörhead song.” You wouldn’t be lying. Then order a cocktail by the pitcher, like the Buck Hunter (bourbon, ginger, lemon).

From there, time to summon dozens of Chesapeake oysters and clams, plus some creative dishes like stuffed sea bream for two, fish-head-and-clam chowder, and eel pie, which is what we hear sustained Motörhead on tour.

That, and green M&M’s.
