Tacos El Chilango

It’s a Wrap

All Kinds of Tacos, a Block Off U Street

Let’s start by saying: there isn’t much you lack. That wondrous head of hair. The marble dashboard in your car. Your encyclopedic command of knock-knock jokes.

But... how do we say this gently... you’re coming up a little short in the taco department.

Here to help: Tacos El Chilango, soft-opening tomorrow just off U Street to satisfy your craving for all manner of meats wrapped in little corn pancakes.

This is the kind of tiny-yet-colorful tacqueria you’d wander into in the heart of Mexico. (The owner comes from a whole family of taco makers, including his brother, who now runs their food truck in Arlington.) You’ll see paintings of Mexican icons like Frida Kahlo, Emiliano Zapata and the first-ever masked wrestler El Santo.

But you’re not here to linger and talk wrestling. You’re here for a quick taco, maybe before your next 9:30 Club show. None are more than three dollars, so you’ll probably be keen to sample a bunch, like the Al Pastor (with pineapple and onions); beef tongue; Oaxacan cheese and guacamole; and the house specialty Mixto (chicken with pork sausage).

You live in a world of plenty.
