Crawfish and Hurricanes on H Street

We’re happy to tell you: hurricane season is upon us.

No, no, not actual hurricanes (not here, anyway). We mean the rum-laden kind. Three varieties of ’em, actually. Served on a NOLA-inspired second-floor patio.

Welcome to TruOrleans, open today on H Street to put a little laissez les in your bons temps rouler (i.e., put a little Mardi in your Gras).

This is the kind of place where you’d want to hang off the wrought iron railing and catch some beads should a float pass by (who knows, it might).

In cooler months, you’ll want to retreat inside, where huge red booths and paintings by NOLA artists await. But for now, better make your reservation under the name “Brees,” just to make sure you get one of the choice tables on that patio.

There, you’ll settle into one of the aforementioned hurricanes or three kinds of Abita beer on tap before you get down to business. And by “business,” we mean Fried Gator Tenders, Crabmeat and Crawfish Pies and all the beignets you can handle.

Which will get you to thinking: “I could probably use a few more of these come morning.” Well, they’ll be there for you, because starting later this summer, the restaurant is opening for breakfast at 7am daily, serving Belgian waffles and Jambalaya-Stuffed Biscuits.

We hear it’s how Aaron Neville starts his day.
