Say It Forward

An App That Texts the Future

None You know how people bury time capsules and then unearth them years later...

Well, this is kind of like that, except without the manual labor.

This being Capsule, a new app that lets you schedule texts, photos and videos for future delivery. It’s available now for iPhone, and here’s how it works.

1. Download the thing. Otherwise the rest is kind of pointless.

2. Figure out why exactly you’d want to send a message in the future. Maybe it’s a proactive birthday greeting to your mom. Maybe it’s a note to yourself: “If you’re reading this, you’re already a cyborg.”

3. Type in your message (or upload a photo or video) and select the recipient from your phone’s contacts.

4. Choose the send date. It can be anywhere from right now to several years in the future.

5. And... that’s about it.

Oh, but if you have second thoughts, you can delete the message before it sends. So it’s like that compromising photo or that expletive-laced tirade never happened.

This is all assuming we still use phones in the future.
