ROOKERY OF THE YEAR

From an Ex–Brass Monkey Chef: This

A funky new American spot called the Rookery is opening tomorrow in Ukrainian Village. For those of you who enjoy kimchi-topped pork belly sandwiches, beer cheese, green chili vodka drinks and burgers like the one pictured, you’re in luck. For those of you who don’t... huh.

Opens May 5, The Rookery, 2109 W Chicago Ave, 773-772-0406

MAYO MY

Cinco de Mayo Is Two Days Longer This Year

Two big Cinco-related coincidences: 1) Big Star/Dove’s Luncheonette are giving you a gratis breakfast taco to celebrate the fact that they’ll serve breakfast tacos now, and 2) Rojo Gusano is throwing a three-day indoor/outdoor party involving live music, Cuban-style pig roasts, tacos and mezcal. We may have misused the word “coincidences.”

May 5, 9-11am, Big Star (from the to-go window), 1531 N Damen Ave, 773-235-4039; May 5-6, 5-10pm; May 7, 11am-10pm; no cover, Cinco de Mayo Fiesta at Rojo Gusano, 3830 W Lawrence Ave, 773-539-4398

The Tiniest Cocktail Bar You Ever Did See

Today in new hotel pop-ups...

At the Waldorf: There’s the Kitchen, a French-ish pop-up restaurant featuring duck confit hash, truffle gnocchi and king crab ravioli.
At Loews: It’s called the Traveller Bar (pictured), and it’s a fleeting, four-seat ode to the golden age of cocktails.

So maybe you go to both.

This’ll Require Your Best Seersucker Suit

This Saturday, don your best Derby attire and head over to Hubbard Street. See, they’re hosting an event where you’ll go from bar to bar, quaffing upon whiskey specials for up to four hours until the big race begins. Yes, “quaffing upon.”

This Should Take Care of Mother’s Day Brunch

“You’re the best son/daughter a mother could ever have.” To hear this, go to...

Duck Duck Goat: Stephanie Izard’s doing brunch-time dim sum service with chocolate-filled bao and shrimp toast (pictured). Or...
La Storia: They’ve got a new Italian brunch situation, plus a gratis summer berry crostata.

For Mom, not you.
