Tuesday is David Bowie Day in Chicago. Obviously. Also, by total coincidence, it’s also the day <em>David Bowie Is</em> opens at the Museum of Contemporary Art. Herewith: the top four associated events you’ll want to know about. Bowie, people. Bowie.
The city of Berlin is indelibly linked to one of Bowie’s most creative periods when he, Brian Eno and Iggy Pop got into some hijinks there. And you get to recreate that era when the nightclub version of Berlin hosts a party with makeup, Bowie tunes and whatever else you need for hijinks.
Ah, the ’70s New York art crowd—Nico, Lou Reed, Warhol, Bowie (as an honorary member). Say, candid shots of a crew like that would make a good exhibit by photojournalist Steve Schapiro. Fun fact: it did, so you and a date should check that out. It would please David greatly.
It’s not exactly Labyrinth (very little in the way of puppets, for starters), but this one-night-only, limited-release documentary about the David Bowie Is exhibit is still solid. It focuses on the Thin White Duke’s creativity, from handwritten lyrics to costumes to videos. No word on a Jennifer Connelly cameo.
This’ll be big. You’ll tell your grandkids about it. About the night you went to a private party where you drank cocktails, ate appetizers and danced to Boy George doing a DJ set of David Bowie songs. They’ll be confused, naturally. No appetizers in the future.
