Henry’s Swing Club

Oh, Henry

A Down-and-Dirty Time from the DMK Guys

Think about what you truly want out of life.

Like, honestly.

Is the answer really a new River North bar with 25 cocktails and 25 kinds of sliders?

...

Well, let’s hear it for well-placed priorities.

Abandon all hope, ye who enter Henry’s Swing Club, a glorious mélange of loud music, cheap booze, dirty magazines and a whole mess of tiny burgers, soft-opening Friday.

Yes, soft-opening. They may not have things just perfect for you on the first day. But ease up. You can deduce from this mix of street art, $1 decks of playing cards, free pool, vintage Playboys scattered about and a name referencing a 1947 John Lee Hooker blues song that they’re going for... not uptight.

And the DMK guys are in charge. Which, simply put, means Hatch-chili nachos. It means sliders with peanut butter, jelly and bacon. It means vodka Picket Fence cocktails. It means good things.

So, the scene: you’ll come here after work for frozen Mezcal Mules. A trucker-cap guy beside you is drinking a Hamtramck (Stroh’s + 100-proof whiskey). A bridal shower is hanging around the pool table causing trouble. A Stooges song comes on and one of them asks, “Who’s this?” You lecture her on Detroit’s rock history.

Or just go, “Stooges.”
