Power Play
A Rock Temple Opens on LaSalle Street

The warm-up acts are finished. The preshow is done. The lights are lowering.

It's officially time to rock.

Introducing LaSalle Power Co., raising the curtain tonight in River North. After a spate of private events over the last few weeks, your buddies from the Eat Well Drink Better empire (Grand Central, English, et al) debut their three-story version of Lollapalooza—and we have a backstage pass for you.

Starting life as a cable-car power station in 1887, this space became Michael Jordan's eponymous off-court perch a century later (and most recently it was Lalo's). It proudly reclaims some Industrial Revolution grittiness with exposed ceilings and ironwork, though with gold barstools, images of guitar-wielding vixens and plush leather banquettes, it feels more like the Victorian bordello Rod Stewart could have run.

After work, the first floor is your spot for rounds of pool and boilermakers—a specialty here and apropos considering the history. Later, head up for a DJ-enlivened dinner on the second. Pair your Thanksgiving Leftover Sandwich or $12 steak-and-lobster potpie with a vodka-spiked strawberry milkshake…you're going to need the energy.

That's because you'll be rocking on the third floor in a full-on performance space, specializing in the kind of acts who will probably find it hard to resist strutting off the stage…and straight toward the adjacent bar. Tonight, the Chelsea Girls, your typical Playboy model–fronted all-girl rock outfit, host a private VIP party, and they'll perform publicly tomorrow. We've scored you hookups for both days.

Yeah, we know: we rock.
