You might have noticed that Little Italy is having a bit of a renaissance lately.
Last week, it was a
new-fangled cocktailing den. Now, it’s an old-fangled cocktailing den.
Take your first look inside
Vintage Lounge, a soon-to-open haven for martinis, crispy pizzas and
late-night Taylor Street shenanigans, hoping to open its varnished doors by the end of next week.
As you enter, you’ll feel like you’ve been
whisked back to
Prohibition: The mahogany bar. The flowing red-velvet drapes. The wrought-iron chandeliers. And that
classic Prohibition-era cocktail, the
Banana Split Martini.
Vintage is the sort of neighborhood haunt where you’ll come in for dinner when you have to entertain a
fickle crowd. Someone wants Chicago-style thin-crust. Someone else wants a Kobe-and-Brie burger. And,
inevitably, someone is jonesing for
Four Piece Legos—flash-fried mac ’n’ cheese logs stuffed
with ham and served with truffle cheese sauce. Finally, you bring everyone together around
Donut
Dippers—doughnut holes with chocolate and strawberry dipping sauces.
Later, work your way to the back for a game of pool, as a not-too-serious-about-himself DJ ushers you on a
journey of 30 different cocktails with names like
The Sinatra Manhattan,
The Dean and
The Raging Bull.
De Niro, Sinatra and Martin. Now those guys knew how to party.
