Good Times...
The Most Dubious Moments of 2010

Time, they say, heals all wounds. Perhaps. But some wounds are worth peeling back the bandages and taking one more look. Because, actually, they’re kind of amusing. So, for your entertainment: some Chicago infamy from 2010.

FEBRUARY 22

Oprah Joins Team Cocoa

Before invading an unsuspecting Australia, declaring herself queen and maiming its number one national export, Lady O did something in really questionable taste. For reasons that aren’t quite clear, she built her entire set out of Godiva chocolate. Her Radio Flyer full of fat looked more appetizing.

AUGUST 21

Art Smith Turns Marriage Corporate

Speaking of O, her onetime personal chef Art Smith and his longtime partner weren’t sitting around waiting for the Illinois legislature to pass civil unions. OCTOBER 25

Defensive Blocking at Angels & Kings

The defensive line can be a crushing, brutal place—in other words, not too different from a velvet rope at Angels & Kings. When Lance Briggs, Brian Urlacher and other Bears were denied entrance, they were reportedly “angry” and “hurt.” Now they know how Pete Wentz feels.

NOVEMBER 10

Rahm’s Landlord-Tenant Disputes

Rahm Emanuel announced he would, ever so humbly, request to be your mayor. No surprise. Things got interesting, however, when the tenant leasing Emanuel’s Ravenswood home refused to budge and launched his own brief stunt campaign, resulting in questions about Rahm’s resident status. Our advice: don’t upset Rahmbo.

NOVEMBER 17

The Gras Is Always Greener

There was talk of different visions between chef and owner. Of changes. Of shabu-shabu. Who remembers who said what. But a day after receiving a three-star Michelin rating—the highest award for a chef—L2O chef Laurent Gras announced his departure from the seafood temple. Adieu—and we’ll always have the tatami room.
