Let’s raise a glass to old friends.

If you don’t have a glass, raise an Alaskan king crab leg instead.

And if you don’t have an Alaskan king crab leg—well, hey, what are old friends for...

Herald the triumphant return of King Crab Tavern & Seafood Grill, that ancient mariner of good times and fresh shellfish, anchoring in River West as early as tomorrow.

Yes, this is from Cy’s group of seafood shops, which, after more than three decades in Chicago, closed its last location earlier this summer. Now: a glorious new beginning in the former Red Canary space that lies somewhere between a 1920s French parlor and a grizzled seafood shanty.

There’s a lobster tank at the entrance. Nod respectfully to its inhabitants as you pass. You’ll meet again soon. You can sit in a big booth with tables inlaid with seashells and sand, but you’ll probably want to hit the alfresco garden while the weather’s still agreeable.

And since it’s BYOB for now, bring something that pairs well with:

—A basket of popcorn shrimp.
—Oysters of the Blue Point and Chesapeake persuasion.
—Crab-stuffed whole Maine lobster.
—Alaskan king crab legs.
—Maryland-style crab cakes.

Maybe just bring a sommelier.
