But burger places... burger places need the world.
Otherwise, how else would Serbian-sausage burgers happen...
So this: Burgers and Barley Pop, a corner sports joint demonstrating what the World Cup could have been if it were only played by hamburgers, now open in Irving Park.
First, about that name. “Barley pop” means beer. Cold beer. Beer that you gulp like water. So, yes, the beer list errs on the just-pour-me-a-cold-one side. Nothing wrong with that on a steamy July night.
Now, “burgers.” Normally, they’re meat patties served between buns. You may be familiar.
But here, there’s the Azteca (queso fresco and jalapeño), the Cubano (ham and pulled pork), the Sticky Bun (a pan-Asian burger with a fortune cookie on the side), the Barley Burger (made with ćevapi, a Serbian beef sausage)... it goes on like this.
Bottom line: burger-and-beer consumption. They have all the necessities like Americana this and that on the walls, 11 flat-screens and long tables perfect for watching the UFC fight with some friends.
