You hardly need a GPS to navigate the Gold Coast. You've got your steaks on Rush, your stores on
Oak.
But we think you've been pulled in two directions long enough.
Which is why we're happy to bring you a first look inside Fred's at Barneys New
York, a steak and martini palace with the culinary chops to blend your shopping and dining needs,
open today.
First, let's quickly walk you through Barneys 2.0. Directly across from its former location, the new
behemoth department store—twice as large as the old shop—puts men's sportswear on four, and
tuxes, wingtips and tailoring on five.
Whew, that was exhausting. Now meet us on six—you look like you're ready for a drink.
Fred's, long a staple of the Barneys Madison Avenue flagship, makes the most of its spacious Chicago
digs—there's an elegant dark wood bar and a huge main dining room with lumbar-hugging chairs.
Which means when you need a reward for a successful spell of merch-raiding—or a bit of an inducement
to venture out in the first place—this will be your penthouse perch for hard-earned martinis, juicy
burgers, seared Angus ribeyes and full-on weekend brunches.
And when it's warm, you'll find yourself on the terrace, with the best view of the
Lake this side of Spiaggia.
God, you love shopping.
